Seward Guided Hikes

Tonsina Beach Trail
Difficulty: Moderate
Take a walk through the mossy forest to emerge out onto Tonsina Beach with a stunning view of Resurrection Bay and surrounding mountains. Learn about the historical figures of Resurrection Bay, the area’s role in World War II, and an understanding of the beautiful animals and plants that inhabit the trail system.
Not extremely strenuous, but note that much of the hike is uphill with some steeper downhill sections. If you are new to hiking this is a good place to start but still may contain challenges at times.

Mount Marathon Bowl + Summit
Difficulty: Hard
Looking for more of a challenge? This hike expands on the Mount Marathon Bowl route and explores sections of the legendary Mount Marathon Race course. Reach a mountain peak and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Seward.
Expect steep inclines, possible muddy, wet and slippery conditions with a steeper hike on a ridge line.
Some sections may require crossing over snow.

Bear Mountain
Difficulty: Hard
Bear Mountain’s unmarked trail and few hikers make it perfect for an off-the-beaten-path, local’s hike. As the only company offering this route, you’ll explore alpine terrain with stunning views of Resurrection Bay.
Be prepared for a steep, strenuous climb with an intense start. Some sections require using roots and trees for support. For safety, the hike ends at the highest safe viewpoint. The return follows the same route down, requiring a careful descent. Snow crossings may occur.

Mount Marathon Bowl
Difficulty: Hard
Climb up the steep but rewarding Mount Marathon Jeep Trail to emerge into a bowl immersed in lush greenery. Along the hike, learn the history of the famous Mount Marathon Race (one of the oldest races in the U.S.!), and information on the animals and plants you may spot along the way.
While challenging, you will earn an outstanding view of Seward and Resurrection Bay.

Description: First summit the short but sweet Grandview Peak, then carry on the ridgeline to McHugh Peak. Great for those who want a more wild hike while staying in Anchorage.
Difficulty: Hard hike. - A steep and longer hike.
Price: Starting at $150 per person
Length: 6 miles with 2,300 feet elevation gain.

Little O’Malley
Description: Enjoy a steady switchback up in the Glen Alps to get some truly breathtaking views of Anchorage and the Chugach.
Difficulty: Moderately Difficult - Hike is largely switchbacks but is consistently uphill for the majority of the hike.
Price: Starting at $110 per person
Length: Roundtrip 5 Miles with 1,500 feet elevation gain
Estimated Time Length: 3-4 Hours

Grandview Peak
Description: Hike directly up Grandview to surround yourself in the peaks of the Glen Alps. Great hike for those looking for a shorter but memorable hike. If you find yourself wanting more, you can add-on the option to carry on the ridgeline to make your way to the incredible McHugh Peak.
Difficulty: Hard hike. - Hike is short but steep.
Price: Starting at $85 per person
Length: Roundtrip 2 miles with 1,000 feet elevation gain
Estimated Time Length: 1.5 - 2.5 Hours

Peak Two
Description: Take the Sunnyside Flattop Trail until you reach the base of Peak 2 where you will branch off to a scramble along the ridgeline. Great for those who like some excitement on their hikes.
Difficulty: Hard hike. - Hike is consistently uphill with the last section requiring a considerably steep scramble up a ridgeline.
Price: Starting at $115 per person
Length: Roundtrip 3 miles with 1,700 feet elevation gain
Estimated Time Length: 3-4 Hours
